History timeline
2014
The band forms. Masala Coffee comes together in Kerala in late 2014, the brainchild of percussionist Varun Sunil. The name is chosen to signify the different kind of music they play — alternate folk rock.
2015
Music Mojo, and going viral. The band's performances on Kappa TV's Music Mojo put it in front of a national audience. Its arrangements of “Munbe Vaa” (January) and “Snehithane” (November) go viral — between them they remain the two most-watched things the band has ever put online.
2018 – 2019
The Kimaya singles. “Arivaal” and “Safar” arrive in November 2018, “Kuttanaadan” in January 2019 and “Vadakkanpattu” that October — the band's first run of official music videos. Around the same period Masala Coffee writes and performs music for films including Solo, Uriyadi and Mundina Nildana.
2020 – 2022
Kaantha, and the Radio Brew. “Kaantha Reprised” lands in December 2020 and becomes one of the band's signature records. The first season of The Radio Brew follows through 2021 and 2022, alongside the Jambox Sessions covers.
2023 – 2025
The Ektara run. “Surangani” with Fejo (2023), “Urangaathey” (2024), then “Dil Ka Pata”, “Paint It Over Me” and “Kavava” across 2025 — while The Radio Brew Season 2 films five more sessions with Vedom Art.
2026
On the road. The band tours Kerala and beyond as an eight-piece: Varun Sunil, Razik Mujawar, Abhijith Anilkumar, Daya Sankar, Surya Bharadwaj, Paul Joseph, Amal Sivan and Pranav K S. Dates are on the tour page.
